As of January 2017, per the new Law PL14 Chapter 9, you will be able to access your original birth certificate through the Bureau of Vital statistics. Attention Birth Parents:

As of January 2017, per the new Law 2014 Chapter 9, an adult adoptee at least eighteen years of age will be able to access their original birth certificate through the New Jersey Bureau of Vital Statistics.A birth parent whose child’s adoption was finalized prior to August 1, 2015 may choose redact their name from the original birth certificate by filing a request for redaction through the office of the Registrar by December 31, 2016. For birth parents whose child’s adoption was finalized after August 1, 2015 their names cannot be redacted and the original long form birth certificate will be released to the adult adoptee. Birth parents may also submit a document for contact preference and update family background as well as medical information after July 1, 2015.
