Post Adoption Counseling

The Children’s Home Society of New Jersey believes that adoption is a lifelong process. We are committed to ensuring successful adoptions for all families and children. Our post-adoptive services are available to birth parents, adoptive parents, and adoptees. Services include counseling at all stages of a child’s growing years. CHSofNJ Post Adoption Services are available to anyone who is adopted, either domestically or internationally, whether the adoption was through The Children’s Home Society of New Jersey or not.

Post Adoption Background & Search

Many adult adoptees and birth parents feel the need to know more about the birth parent or birth child they never met. CHSofNJ provides written summaries for adult adoptees who ask for information about their biological and medical background. We act as an intermediary in the search and reunion process, giving out no identifying information until both parties consent. CHSofNJ counsels all parties considering search and reunion, and offers counseling after a reunion if requested. We do not advocate for or against searching, but respect each individual’s decision. CHSofNJ provides background and search services for CHSofNJ Adoptees and CHSofNJ Birth Parents, and other adult adoptees who have obtained their original birth certificates through the Department of Health. CHSofNJ can also provide intermediary and counseling services to any birth parent at their request.

Dear Adoptee:

Thank you for your interest in our Background and Search program. In order to proceed, please send us a copy of your identification – either a birth certificate or driver’s license. In addition, please complete and return the appropriate application for the service you are requesting, the Waiver of Confidentiality and the Release of Liability forms along with the appropriate fee. Allow at least six weeks for the background to be received or the search to be initiated. Feel free to contact Aisha Harper at 609-695-6274 ext. 149 with any questions. In order to proceed, please send us a copy of your identification – either a birth certificate or driver’s license. Thank you for your interest in our Background and Search, Intermediary and Genealogy programs. In order to proceed, please send us a copy of your identification – either a birth certificate or driver’s license. If you are a descendant of a resident of the Children’s Home please also include your relative’s proof of death. In addition, please complete and return the appropriate application, the Waiver of Confidentiality and the Release of Liability along with the appropriate fee.
