Policies and Complaint Procedures

Confidentiality

All employees of the Children's Home Society of New Jersey are bound by a policy that prohibits the disclosure, either directly or indirectly, of any confidential information. Any breach of this policy may result in the employee receiving, as appropriate, a reprimand, suspension or termination in addition to other legal remedies that may apply.

Complaints Against CHS of NJ Staff

Complaints against a staff member should be addressed to the supervisor or program administrator of the appropriate department. Complaints against a supervisor or program administrator should be addressed to the director. Complaints against the director should be addressed to the director of human resources. If warranted, this complaint will be brought to the attention of the agency's CEO. It is strongly suggested that complaints be submitted in writing. Supervisors and program administrators will document the incident, follow up with the employee involved and inform the individual who initiated the complaint of the result. Written results may be provided if specifically requested. If the complaint involves an adverse action as a result of a program regulation, contact the supervisor or program administrator of that program for information on appeal procedures.

Any complaint that indicates child abuse or neglect must be investigated by
The NJ Department of Children and Families at 1-877-NJ ABUSE.

Complaints Against a Child Care Center

A complaint involving a child care center is handled by The NJ DCF, Office of Licensing. The toll free number is 1-877-667-9845.

Complaints Against a Child Care Provider

CHS of NJ is responsible for registering and monitoring family child care providers in Ocean County. A complaint that is not child abuse or neglect involving a registered child care provider will be investigated by our agency. To discuss or register a complaint, contact Joan at 732-557-9633, x136. You are entitled to any results of an investigation as long as they are categorized as "open for public inspection." If you remain anonymous, you will need to call our agency for the outcome. If you give your name, you should be aware that under New Jersey's Right-to-Know Law, it is included in our records which are open for public inspection.

If a complaint investigated by our agency is substantiated, the registered family child care provider will receive any technical assistance and/or additional home visits necessary to help the provider come into and remain in compliance.
