Domestic Infant Adoption

Since 1894, The Children's Home Society of New Jersey is committed to placing all infants and toddlers, of all races, whose birth parents come to us seeking placement. In domestic adoption we work only with families who live in New Jersey or Bucks County, Pennsylvania. We provide the home study and facilitate the adoption from beginning to end. There are a very small number of Caucasian infants available for adoption. We have an ongoing need for families wishing to adopt African-American infants and toddlers.

photoDomestic adoption may be traditional or open. In traditional adoption there is no exchange of information between birth parents and adoptive parents. Open adoptions vary according to the wishes of all parties involved. In many open adoptions the birth parents participate in the selection of the adoptive parents from the agency's approved families.

Some parents choose to meet face to face without exchanging last names. Before a child's placement, the degree of future contact is discussed and agreed upon. Contact may include photographs and/or progress reports, typically annual progress reports sent through the agency.

In domestic adoption we work only with families who live in New Jersey or Pennsylvania. We provide the home study and facilitate the adoption from beginning to end. We have an ongoing need for families wishing to adopt African-American and Bi-Racial infants and toddlers. We maintain a pool of approved adoptive families so that birth parents may choose a family for their child. We accept childless families and those with one other child. We accept singles, older families and those families with multiple children for our “hard to place” children. A subsidy may accompany a “hard to place” child or sibling group. The average wait after approval ranges from one month to three years for Caucasian children and one month to one year for African-American and Bi-Racial children. Fees are moderate and based on a sliding scale depending on income. For more information, please contact Marie Braun at (800) 247-6365 ext. 115 or .
